A great many people partner the vagus nerve with profound breathing. However, it is a lot more. The vagus nerve has many capabilities, which are framed in these pages. Assimilation, stress control, and sleep designs are impacted by the vagus nerve. Furthermore, things that are terrible for the nerve are incorporated. There are numerous exercises recorded in the book to animate the nerve. The book finishes with a reason.

I am very impressed with this book. It contains research-based data as well as scientific diagrams to assist understanding. The author is heartfelt and comprehensive in the information shared. Additionally, I appreciated the portion within each detailed exercise section which indicated if there were risks or contraindications for anyone (very thorough). Finally – there is an FAQ section at the end. Essentially the reader should know the answers to all the questions once the FAQ are reached – but it serves as a synopsis in case there may have been misunderstanding along the way.

This was a nice easy read and I enjoyed learning more about the vagus nerve. A lot of great information and suggestions. I have autoimmune issues and I’m looking for alternatives to help inflammation.

  4. The Rebecca Review (verified owner)

Before reading this excellent book on the vagus nerve I was aware of absolutely nothing about it. All I knew was that understanding some more details might help me with my anxiety. For a while I had my anxiety under complete control, then suddenly it returned with a vengeance. Clenching my jaw and moving my tongue around in my mouth too much was causing me grief. I did realize that I’d changed the brand of coffee I was drinking. That could have increased my anxiety. However I was still searching for more solutions.

This book is written by an expert on the vagus nerve. Reiner Hartmann knows a lot and he has a ton of great ideas for increasing health and reducing anxiety. I’ve been trying to find more reasons to laugh which is helping and I’ve started humming along with the radio. I’m willing to try anything at this point including his advice on taking cold showers. The most important part of the book however seems to be the section on breathing exercises. I find the box breath works miracles for me. I’m going to do some more breathing exercises with a CD as well to get more benefits.

As this book states: “Deep breathing can slow down the heart rate and balance cortisol levels in the body, thus providing relief from anxiety.” ~ pg. 39

This book also has information on why acupuncture works. The section on yoga is interesting and I know doing yoga helps my anxiety. Although I only personally recommend nonreligious yoga because I do not want to change my religion to get healthy! Nonreligious meditation like watching ocean waves or sitting quietly with relaxing music is also effective but you have to take the time to do it! When you are feeling anxious it is hard to sit still or concentrate. So it is difficult and you just have to make yourself do it I guess.

Reiner Hartmann also says that stretching can make you look younger. So I’ve got to do more of that!

Basically this book woke me up to various possibilities and encouraged me to get healthier and do more healing work for my body. I think you will enjoy reading this book and putting it into practice. I am not a doctor, nor is this review medical advice. I just know what works for me and I’m already feeling better and more knowledgeable about how to stay calm and centered.

If social situations make you anxious, this book is an invaluable resource. It’s filled with practical tips and exercises aimed specifically at improving social engagement.

  6. Darrell Elmore (verified owner)

I gave this book as a gift to a friend interested in biohacking. They were ecstatic about the simple exercises for fine-tuning the nervous system.

  7. Maxwell Bowles (verified owner)

This book is a game-changer for anyone grappling with anxiety. It doesn’t just throw jargon at you; instead, it offers actionable daily exercises that are simple yet profoundly effective.

  8. James Ceniceros (verified owner)

Whether you’re already versed in health topics or just starting your wellness journey, this book has something to offer. The chapters on forward head posture are particularly enlightening.

  9. Elizabeth Manzano (verified owner)

If you already know polyvagal theory, this won’t be anything new, but it provides useful overviews and straight to the point activities to try. I’m a fan of this compared to other books on the same topic.

  10. Lindy Cady (verified owner)

When you read about all the connections there is to the vagus nerve and how much the vagus nerve controls the flow to so many features of the body, one realizes that learning about it and helping it do its job is of utmost importance. This book is a good intro to what a person can do and explains the connections the vagus nerve has to the health of the whole body.

  11. Tara (verified owner)

I love that this book explains all about the vagus nerve, including how it is such an important part of our nervous system but can be prone to dysfunction, in an easy to understand way. The concept of doing vagus nerve exercises is intriguing to me and I have already been practicing. These exercises (like deep breathing, cold exposure, chanting, massage, and stretching) are meant to help reduce stress, anxiety, and body pain – so I am ready to make them more of a habit in my life.

  12. Brooke Shamblin (verified owner)

A very short read, but interesting. When I first read the description, I imagined something leaning towards your typical meditation routines. However, it is unique in its approach to use simple body exercises to help alive stress, pain, and feelings of being overwhelmed. I do not believe this should be the only guide someone uses to feel better, but I can certainly see where this book can help.

  13. ReDavid (verified owner)

These exercises changed the way I think about inflammation and recovery. Why isn’t this common knowledge?!

  14. M. Kielsmeier (verified owner)

This book is as practical as its title. I’ve been aware of the vagus nerve for several years and have been told exercises on how to activate it. Though I have forgotten what they are. That’s one reason I like having books around, so you can consult them again and again. This book gives plenty of extra education that is nebulous to the facts just about the vagus nerve. You’ll learn more than you thought.

  15. Kate 45 (verified owner)

Very interesting and I think this book could help a lot of people.

  16. Lovinglife (verified owner)

I really liked this book. It includes facts from studies together with scientific illustrations to help with comprehension. The information offered by the author is thorough and expressed with emotion. I liked the part in each stage of the thorough exercise that said whether there were any dangers or contraindications for anyone. This book simplifies and enjoyably explains how to build the body’s relaxation nerve using simple exercises, dietary advice, and the most recent findings on the Polyvagal Theory. This book is your go-to resource if you want to reduce inflammation, ease anxiety, or just feel more at peace.

  17. Stoic Putto (verified owner)

I didn’t know much about the vagus nerve before, so I found this book provided a really good overview of its functions and importance. The author explained things clearly without it being too technical. Some of the exercises like breathing techniques and singing have already helped me feel calmer. I’ll probably need to refer to certain sections again as reminders. It gave me a solid foundation to learn more. Recommended as a starting point for anyone interested in this topic.

  18. Sung Sik Yoon (verified owner)

This is a gem of a book that caught me by surprise. As someone who’s always looking for natural ways to reduce stress and enhance overall well-being, I found this book to be both informative and practical. The author, Reiner Hartmann, does an excellent job of breaking down complex scientific concepts into understandable and actionable steps. What really stands out is the book’s holistic approach. It’s not just about doing exercises; it also delves into how our diet and daily habits can influence our vagal tone.

The inclusion of personal stories and the latest findings makes the book not only a guide but a journey of discovery. Whether you’re a busy professional or a parent juggling multiple responsibilities, the exercises outlined are easy to incorporate into any routine. The audiobook is a fantastic addition, making it convenient to stay engaged with the content even on the go. Overall, this book is a great find for anyone interested in harnessing the power of their body to foster a sense of calm and resilience.

  19. Amie Martin (verified owner)

I have always leaned homeopathic over pharma/big med… but try to base practices and knowledge on real science versus whack theories or practices people have only “heard” works. The practices outlined in this book are actionable, practical, and have the potential to be life-changing! I can’t wait to dive deeper into these practices to see how my health can improve across the board. For anyone who enjoys educating themselves about their body and having a say in your mental/physical/emotional health, highly recommend!

  32. HMCKL (verified owner)

Prior to this book, I had never heard of the vagus nerve, which is the longest nerve in the body. I read a bit of the inside before picking this up and saw that the vagus nerve can be implicated in disorders such as asthma—which I have—so I thought it would be worth reading.

It’s obvious the author is very knowledgeable about this subject and when presenting exercises or activities, includes both the pros and cons of them. There are numerous breathing exercises and stretches you can do. I already stretch often so was surprised to hear the negatives to stretching.

This book provides everything you need to know about the vagus nerve.

  33. straa (verified owner)

I knew nothing about this nerve and was eager to read this book. Firstly I gave this book a 4 star only because of the formatting on the ebook but the book itself was wonderful. I did love the pictures to show where exactly this nerve was. It was a big help to understand it a bit better. All in all I did learn something from this book and I will be doing more singing.

  35. Hurst Williamson (verified owner)

This is a very solid source of information. If this is a topic you’re interested in, I would recommend it. The only challenge for was that it reads a lot like a high school textbook and I found myself “studying” more than reading. However, in fairness to the author, the book is meant to inform rather than entertain. So, again, if you are looking to dive into info on the vagus nerve, this is a solid choice to explore
