This book was a great find. Finally I can say I understand the whole calorie scenario and how it affects my metabolism. Not that it is anything terribly complex but Bjorn lays it out so well you actually understand it all. Some information here on calories and carbohydrates I’ve never seen before. I have no idea if that is of itself something special but to me it was new and interesting. Plus it is not full of simple recipes just to fill pages. (in fact there are no recipes!)

I had read another book by this author on nutrition and it was a great intro to the subject. What calories are and how they relate to physical activity is explained here. Carbohydrates, good fats from various sources, and different kinds of protein are discussed. Besides the nutrition component of fitness several exercises are described in this book too, for upper and lower body muscle groups, and even some Pilates and yoga poses, which I especially appreciated. The final section of the book contains some recipes, so this is good all-around reference on the subject of fitness.

This book was so worth it, not only does it provide exercises for each part of your body but it also focuses on the inside of your body. This book has so much information to offer, it talks about the proper amount of calories, fats, carbohydrates, protein that is needed in the body. It helps you figure out what your body needs the most, it has an example on how to calculate the amount of fats, etc your body needs. It also has recipes, like meals and smoothies. I’ll apply this tricks well, I recommend this book to everyone.

This could be the best guide about fitness that I have acquired in recent years.
I have worked hard to lose weight and more important to be healthier. Diets, I tried each and every one of them, some with whom I have suffered too much.
My sister recommended that I should read about fitness because she has been trainning that way for many years and thought it would help me.
I do not start with any training yet but thanks to this book I have changed my way of eating and I’m creating my own routine.
This guide is amazing, very very very complete. All you need to know is here.
I am very happy with my purchase. I recommend it.

It is almost Christmas and I am totally out of shape! I have to do what I can to be rightfully fit again! Need to move these muscle and joints of mine despite of the stress that I am getting each day from work. Good thing, I cam across this book right on time. Upon reading the book, I am already getting thrilled on the guidelines that this book contain! Actually, the way it was written is very inviting. One good key of being a writer is to know how to keep your audience to keep on paying attention and Johnny did not fail to do that.
I am actually calling up my elder and younger brother while I am writing this feedback. I am inviting them to join me on this workout on weekends. They as well are excited about it. This would be a good bonding time for us all!

The author has provided a great map in this book. I read books on fitness and nutrition regularly to keep my head in the game so I don’t get derailed by the constant bombardment of marketing of processed foods we’re surrounded by. This book is a great touch point! I’ve heard that fitness and health are the result of nutrition and exercise. Different people say that these are important in different combinations. Some say they’re equally important. Others put emphasis on one over the other. No matter which you believe, or more importantly which you experience, this book is a nice primer on both eating and working out. Also it was great to see the value placed on walking as well as resistance training. Too many folks bash one and favor the other. We need both. Nicely done!

A good book with excellent nutrition info in it. A bit on the short side and gets a bit dry at the end, but overall helpful.

At my age I know something about nutrition and exercise. However I get in a rut eating and exercising. So I picked this up for some nutritional review and more importantly a different or additional exercise regime. The elliptical and stationary bike are getting old. The nutritional area was a great introduction to nutrition. I would recommend finding a good cookbook following the guidelines. The exercise section describing kettle bells, rowing machines, medicine balls, and. yoga among many gave me several ideas. Some ideas will be implemented tomorrow. I’m also going to look into a rowing machine. That appears to be a challenge and also work for some different body parts.

Quite a few errors in writing such as in the carbohydrates section that could cause confusion. He talks about refined vs unrefined carbs. He gives out a list of unrefined carbs and calls them refined. There are other cases throughout.

My wife followed this and she has lost 40 lbs down and counting, pretty good for a 56 year old woman! She has never felt better. She joined OrangeTheory and calculated her calories using the methods on the book.

The book, in general, is a good source for beginners and people who kind of know how to get fit, but need some guidance. I love how the author described each topics and the benefits of exercises and nutrition. Although many people consider this book too basic, I think it can be used as a good foundation for anyone’s fitness journey, no matter the level of fitness of the readers. I also think this book can be used as a review on fitness for individuals who perform at an advanced level. It is wise to remember that covering the basics of any concept is essential to succeed, and that as much as we like to believe we know everything, we tend to forget “basic” but essential concepts. Giving it 4 stars because there was an error in one of the first chapters though.

My GFs daughter is 12 and seems to be amazed by mine and others who obtain muscular physiques. I was 12 when I bought a similar book called Ripped. I learned it back to front. She just got it so verdict still out.

If you’re looking into working out and nutrition. This is basically a college textbook 101 on how to start. It’s clear and understanding on directions and very informative. It’s a good book to keep around if you need any references
