OK, so I’m not a huge fan of greens and green juicing. To say the least.
But with this book, I’ve found a new love for smoothies…even with greens! I call it “drinking a salad” – but it’s SO DARN GOOD! It’s my pick-me-up in the morning, and sometimes I go for another one at the afternoon just to get re-fueled to finish my dat strong.
I highly recommend this book – it has a recipe for everyone.
What I love most is that Farnoosh answers every question i might think of – it’s like she’s in my head, and every time I get a question – there she is, answering it in the book. Absolutely amazing!
Try it- you’ll never look back:)

I can’t figure out why this book is so much better than other smoothie books I’ve seen, but I am loving this book. The smoothies are so easy to make, don’t require a ton of ingredients, and are so healthy. I love how she doesn’t use dairy but is still able to produce thick “smooth” smoothies. Her writing style makes this a very easy read. I had no idea you could freeze avocados! She has great tips and I feel like I don’t have to buy a bunch of weird ingredients or fill my blender all the way to to top with random ingredients to render a great smoothie. She also adds spices to some of her recipes which is something I hadn’t really thought of (aside from adding fresh herbs, vanilla or cinnamon). I’m not a super novice smoothie maker, but I’m definitely not super experienced either. Sometimes making smoothies can be a little overwhelming because I think it’s easy to get in a rut and get bored with the ingredients (and I’m not creative enough to think them up on my own). She offers such variety that I don’t think that would happen. And I love that she labels them (such as Green Lover, Meal Replacement, Low Fruit, etc.) Oftentimes I’m looking to make a smoothie as a meal replacement so I can find those quickly without reading through all the ingredients. Love love love this book! 😉

So much more than a recipe book – I JUST received this book and gave it a quick look over while drinking my coffee this morning. It not only has some interesting smoothie recipes but it details just about everything you need to know about using smoothies to make smart and healthy choices throughout the day. If you are looking to educate yourself this is the book for you. Great book great buy. Can’t wait to read it more during nap time and wake my kids up to a healthy smoothie!

I’m updating this just a couple hours after my initial review – My toddler, who is picky beyond belief, just drank himself 3 baby “pouches” full of the first smoothie in the book, which had parsley and celery in it. I haven’t been able to get him to eat anything green EVER. My preschooler wasn’t much of a fan, but you can’t win’em all.

I bought this for a family member who is into the smoothie-thing, so she is not new to creating smoothies and in fact has one for breakfast and another for lunch every day. Though she is well-versed in many of the things the book discusses, she absolutely loved the book. Based on her feedback I think the book is good for beginners and those looking for some new ideas but for anyone other than a beginner there will be information that is not new to you. Great pictures and layout, too!

Here are easy to prepare recipes, and explanations about the health benefits, for people like me, who are new to preparing drinks using fruits and veggies. I’ve had fun making and drinking most all of the recipes – my goal being to lose weight. In a little over 3 weeks, I’ve lost almost 15 pounds, using smoothies as meal replacements and having a traditional meal for dinner (I’ve also been working hard in the gym). I just needed to take off 20 pounds, so I’m almost there. I’ll continue to incorporate smoothies into my meal planning because they’re really tasty and have made me feel better in general (I have more energy, and my skin looks better than before I started). This book is really the only one I’ll need. It’s explained things to me about nutrition: which foods to eat and which to avoid. Enough so that I can now make up my own recipes now, and tweak the ones here.

I’m buying ingredients to make smoothies this weekend (I just received my new blender, so I’m rather excited). Why the five-star review if I’ve not tried any of the recipes? I know the recipes will work, as I’ve seen similar ones elsewhere. And, come on… There are 108 recipes included, and they are geared towards all types of smoothie-drinkers: beginners, those who want to lose weight, those wanting meal-replacements, low-fruit/sugar options. And all recipes are vegan (though I am not).

What I’m most impressed about with this book are twofold:
    (1) The quality of the book is great. All of the paper is glossy, and the book is full of images for the recipes. I like knowing what the final product should look like. Typically, I like nutritional information with recipes — none are included in this book — and Brock explains the reason she does not have any listed. Making smoothies is not an exact science, and a “handful” of spinach could vary person to person as well as 1 cup of spinach (depends on how you pack it). Also, smoothies are highly versatile, and ingredients and amounts of ingredients vary.
    (2) The entire first half of the book is, indeed a bible for smoothie drinkers. Brock presents the argument for smoothies, and presents extremely detailed information on ingredients, super-food additions, storage (how to store fruits/vegetables), and grocery shopping. I found this information extremely helpful, and it helped me decide how I want my personal “smoothie journey” to look.

  7. NewBeginnings (verified owner)

As I am just getting into smoothie making, I have found this book very helpful. There is clear & helpful information on what can make smoothies be sweeter, have more protein, what ingredients mix well or not so well, and how different ingredients can help meet different needs in your body. There were only a couple of things I did not care for. One is how the author left out some types of smoothie recipes because she did not personally like them, for instance she did not include any recipes that use yogurt. I also did not like on a couple of occasions how she factually stated something was unhealthy, but there are other perspectives that disagree. For example, she included stevia as an unhealthy sweetener. However stevia is a natural plant substance that has not been found to be unhealthy, like most artificial sweeteners.

All in all the book is excellent for someone wanting to be guided into the world of smoothies.

  8. Nuanceso (verified owner)

Love this! Just a beginner but read it through and learned a lot! Made a few of them and they’re yummy scrumptious!! Easy and not too “too” – perfect sweet/sour ratio, perfect consistency. And so simple and fun and GOOD to drink, that you want to right away experiment. Just follow Farnoosh’s deceptive ‘simplicity’ – I do incremental changes on one I take from the book – several times in a row. Very nice to be drawn in like that….very unpretentious, unlike other books full of exotic ingredients you’d never find outside of NYC. And my grown son LOVES them! Shukran!

  9. Amber (verified owner)

When I bought this I was thinking that it would be small recipes but it turns out that most want at least 6+ different fruit, spice, vegetables, and other things. This would be a great book for those that have like a year around farmers market. ( when Im from they don’t have it til late may) I do like that breakdown of the recipes and them telling you what it could be used for. I bought this book since my husband has been getting into the smoothies, but even he thought that the combination on some of these smoothies tasted worried. Was looking into sortof a quick way to do smoothies and something that wouldn’t add time to our already busy day. Overall its a good book , but just wasn’t what I wanted in the end

  10. Janette (verified owner)

This book provides lots of good information on the basic of smoothie making and resources for ingredients. This is not just a recipe book. Many of the recipes just have small variations from one another, but that shows you how you can adapt a recipe to soot your own tastes.

  11. Frank E. Trinkle (verified owner)

As people are becoming MUCH more interested in improving their health and lives, one of the foremost methods is the vegan smoothie. This is NOT the smoothie that you get from the franchised smoothie outlets. Those usually are including protein powders, sugar, and who knows what else.

Nope, healthy smoothies are EXACTLY what this book is about. Whether to boost your immune system, detox your body, lose weight, or gain energy and mental stamina…these recipes are for you. And well beyond just recipes, the author goes into great detail regarding the specific benefits (PROVEN) that many of the ingredients provide.

Next, the recipes are combos of super ingredients, that together are palatable…no squint your eyes tasteless! Awesome flavors when the suggested ingredients are combined.

Smoothies can be either a supplemental health boost, or for some, their complete meals. It is virtually impossible to find people who drink healthy smoothies who would say they have not received extreme benefits from consuming them. Physically, mentally, and nutritionally.

The Healthy Smoothie Bible is just that… the reference we have all sought for keeping sickness away, living a long and healthy life, and doing it with energy, alertness, and immunity.

    Highest recommendation!

Just want to let you know that I have devoured the Healthy Smoothie Bible, and it is truly a Bible!! Thanks to you I have been creating smoothies for almost two years. I believe I am healthier, have more energy and even look better. Your book is a masterpiece. It has given me true guidance in my smoothie journey, and it is a rare day when I don’t consult my Smoothie Bible for one thing or another; I have even purchased this book for two of my children. I just wanted to say thank you for having such a positive effect on my life!

  13. Andy & Ari (verified owner)

I purchased this book over a year ago, because I tend to do a lot of veggie/protein powder smoothies (I have one at least every day post work out), and I tend to get bored pretty easily, so I like to try a variety of different things, though I do have a few favorite concoctions I make regularly. None of them are from this book, but overall I did like most of the recipes in here.

So for me, because I strength train, and I have a pretty high activity level, and I’m a vegetarian, I added protein powder to everything I tried. I also reduced fruit amounts on many of them, because some of them contain more then my recommended daily allowance of fruit, and I also lowered fat content on some of them, because I have to be more careful about the amount of fat I consume for health reasons. Some of these I actually really liked, and even my sweet veggie smoothie averse hubby enjoyed some of them. Some of the ones I tried I can unfortunately honestly say I would never make them again, for myself or others. I think this book does a good job of incorporating a fair number of veggie recipes that are palatable, but some of that may be a matter of preference. I have a harder time with most recipes that incorporate parsley, and there is a decent number of those in this book. I have made a fair number of the recipes in here, and I do think it could be a good resource for you, but you may need to modify them as I did to meet any special dietary guidelines you have to follow.

  14. Shami (verified owner)

Very good smoothly recipes and talks about other health ideas, not just making smoothies. However only four stars because some of the recipes are just odd and need odd ingredients. I prefer just basic ideas.

  15. Megs (verified owner)

Lots of great ideas and delicious smoothies. I now have a handful that have become part of my routine and when I feel like a change, I grab the book and flip through.
Surprised how much I live the mint, kale, pineapple, avocado recipe. And never would have though to pair cucumbers with oranges!
Most of these recipes do use things I used to not keep in the house. If you like more simple recipes and are not willing to explore new ingredients then you won’t benefit much from this book.
I found that after buying some of the ingredients (swiss chard, mint leaves, ginger, pears etc) that I didn’t ever buy, now that they are in the fridge I’m trying new dinner recipes too! In it’s own weird way, this book encouraged me to expand my cooking as well.

  16. Denise G. (verified owner)

This book is very informative. I was looking for a guide to help me decide what ingredients would work for what I’m looking for. This book gave me an in depth and detailed look into recipes and what the ingredients do. Definitely a must read.

  17. Xriva Zimmerman (verified owner)

I’m new to smoothies, so I’m reading this book cover to cover. This book is great but even the low carb recipes exceed the daily carb limits of my strict keto diet. For now, I’ll drink ultra low carb keto shakes. Once I hit my target weight I’ll try these recipes a few times a week. I’m really looking forward to it. Removed one star as ” Scoop ” is occasionally used as a unit of measure.

  18. TGR (verified owner)

Overall I thought the author provided helpful information. However, I think the title is a little misleading. Using the word ‘Bible’ may cause one to think this as an authoritative book on the subject matter. It is written more from the authors own perspective and opinions. Did not agree with everything in the book. There are plenty of good recipes in the book to start your journey at making smoothies. Just remember if you find yourself loving making smoothies you may find yourself looking for more information else where. However, it is a decent book to start with.

  19. foopy1 (verified owner)

I could not have selected a better book to start my journey into healthy smoothies. I am a complete novice and this book addressed all the questions I had and questions I didn’t know to ask. The book was well organized and very thorough as a “smoothie 101” instruction book. The author did an excellent job of explaining how to get started, why smoothies are healthy for you, what to shop for, how to prepare and store your ingredients, how to select recipes and make adjustments if you make a mistake. The material was presented in a light hearted way and included very valuable information without making it feel really structured. She makes it sound fun to experiment and not be critical of yourself if your smoothie isn’t PERFECT…..just keep trying. Anyway I really enjoyed the book and look forward to putting her methods into practice. This will be a great reference book to rely on until I become proficient. Can’t wait to get started

  20. lemon (verified owner)

This was an easy, quick read. The recipes are good, and you can really get an understanding of how you want to base your smoothies. Like other reviewers, I wish the recipes we’re organized by fruit or vegetable.. as it is it’s just a collection at the end.

  21. dbee (verified owner)

I have read so many books, researched so many foods, and EVERYTHING is in this book. These ladies are great! They have done all the work for you. They tell you about blenders, how to store your vegetables & fruits, smoothie packs, freezing, everything. And not to mention a lot of recipes and how to tweak them for your own taste. You will be happy with it as I was.

  22. C. Man (verified owner)

The book did have some good recipes and tips but still a lot of special ingredients are needed. I’m keeping it as I like the tips, a few recipes, and substitution ideas. A different book I purchased recently had many ingredients I was unfamiliar with, this isn’t as bad.

  23. Graves (verified owner)

There are a boat load of smoothie recipes in this book but they are a hit or a miss. Definitely have made some modifications to weird combinations they give with success. Overall, good book but I use my other smoothie books more.

  24. Deborah (verified owner)

I love this book. It gives you recipes that are easy to follow. Has a hundred or so flavors of smoothies some you’ll hate but mostly enjoy due to their nutritional value, health, energy and ease of putting together. The only thing I would suggest is if you don’t have the money (over $500) for the fancy smoothie makers, buy at least an 1800 watt, plastic top blender with a stainless steal base to make your smoothies, because the blender needs to break down in frozen fruits as well as emulsify greens. Buy this book if you want to add a healthy regime to your eating habits.

  25. C. F. Jones (verified owner)

My daughter and I have used this book as a “bible” for drinking smoothies. I read it cover to cover and have a good understanding of what smoothies are, how they are nutritional for you, how to incorporate them into our diet and most importantly, the health benefits of drinking smoothies regularly.
This worked very well for me because my daughter is not one who likes veggies and consuming smoothies is a good way to sneak them in as well as ingredients like flax or sunflower seeds. If she knew I put those in there, she would not drink!

  26. Sackrison (verified owner)

You’re making green smoothie since 2012 two years before this book was written. I totally disagree that you cannot freeze greens. Been doing it for years makes them last a long time. It is perfectly acceptable to freeze any greens. It’s also great for many other produce products nothing goes to waste around here.
I just started reading it so far I’m pretty happy with this got it mostly from the recipes I am a green smoothie girl

  27. Patricia (verified owner)

This book is amazing. I’ve just started but so far I’ve learned so much more than just being able to find recipes to make a smoothie! If you really want to learn about the health and nutrients behind smoothie making along with a great list of recipes then this book is for you.

  28. DriBrz (verified owner)

It is a very informative book with detailed notes about ingredients and its benefits. I was expecting more recipes and pictures; very few. Not suitable for young children, due the lack of images of the smoothies

  29. Heidilynn Latham (verified owner)

Has a lot of good recipes. I wish it had the calories for the drinks stated but it doesn’t.

  30. Melanie Ricketts (verified owner)

I recommend this. As mentioned above, great recipes plus lots of medical/nutritional information; like, e.g., ‘don’t make 2 days worth of smoothies because sometimes ingredients interact over a period of time.’ Uhm, oh…no wonder it doesn’t taste as good the second day. Eh, I still make double batches anyway; I simply don’t have time.

  31. Nancy M. (verified owner)

Bought this for a friend who was having “pre-denture” surgery, figuring she’d appreciate not having to think too much about what to nourish herself with when she became temporarily toothless. So far she says she loves the selection, the broad nutritional info, clear instructions, & easily accessed ingredients, ie, exotic foods/spices not required. Glad to have found this- my friend says it’s really helped her out post-OP, & she’ll
happily continue to use it when she can chew again.

  32. Beth (verified owner)

This book is full of great information and a lot of different smoothie recipes. A very easy read. No, it doesn’t have the recipes color coded (like Green or Orange lists). I noticed others had complaints about that. I found that the smoothie recipe index is very easy to navigate.

  33. Barbara T. (verified owner)

It looks fabulous and the only problem I think I have but I’m sure it can be solved is that so many different recipes requires so many different kinds of protein powder and being I never even bought protein powder, I don’t intend to buy six different types so I will look for a neutral one that would be good with MOSTA all recipes!

  34. leezeedeezia (verified owner)

I’m generally not one to write product reviews but I had to do this one. Although I’m a beginner, this is by far the best book I’ve seen on making smoothies. It’s easy to understand with a ton of helpful information; a bit witty as well. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more books from this author!

  35. Tibtam (verified owner)

Just received it, and skimmed through it. I like that she seems to cover everything you need to know about making smoothies. Have not tried any receipes yet, but there are hundreds so there has to be some really taistey ones in there, I’m happy I ordered it and ready to try out the receipes.

  36. Angel Nieves (verified owner)

There’s a lot of reading not enough recipes what is worth the money and the smoothies are they are delicious and I tried all of them already

  37. Minnie wilson (verified owner)

Nice illustrations, easy to follow instructions, nice variety of recipes.

  38. Shamaki L. Mack (verified owner)

I’m not very creative with meals and I tend to get frustrated and just eat junk food. I love cooking/making different things. These smoothie recipes are easy and make breakfast super easy, healthy, and delicious!

  39. Hermilo C Martinez (verified owner)

Being a new to juicing and smoothies this book has been very helpful in planning what to buy and gain knowledge on how the smoothies affect you and your body

  40. William P. (verified owner)

Inside cover for the book says $16.95. So overpaid a bit. Good hustle tho, I’m not mad

  41. valleymc (verified owner)

    Love this

  43. Janice Chandler (verified owner)

So many great smoothie recipes to try. I’ve tried a few different ones and they were really tasty and easy.

Lots of smoothies Bible recipes there is no right or wrong way to do it you can add substitutes wish I had known about this 12 years ago would be blending every day just don’t have the time and money to do this is very important your body needs all the nutrients it can get from the earth

  45. Karen W. Byrd (verified owner)

I just made my first smoothie listed from the recipes in the book and was it ever delicious! It was the one with mango, banana, celery with a handful of herbs (i used fresh cilantro). I highly recommend especially for a day like today – high 90’s with unbelievable humidity!

Tip: I keep 16 oz glass mugs in my freezer and I drink my smoothies from a frosted mug. It really enhances the smoothie experience!

  46. Kimberly (verified owner)

I love this book I’m going to start drinking healthier and eating healthier

For a beginner it was perfect. Lots of info on the reasons for doing smoothie, the benefits, and all the variations you can make. Tips that I would never have known or thought of to improve the taste. Very helpful also on how to work up to adding more greens. I was so surprised at how great it tasted. This is definitely a good book.

I made up my mind to improve my diet and get healthy. I am going on 68, and I just can’t keep eating like I did when I was in my twenties. That means anything I wanted. I am halfway through this book. I have learned much about what to buy, what not to buy, and the nutritional value of many different foods, seeds, powders, and base liquids. I am a beginner and so happy I got this book. If you are new to smoothies, this is a must-read. I have tried one recipe, and it was great. More are earmarked in the book. My go-to shopping place will be Whole Foods and online.
